PAINLESS DENTISTRY

Dental drills grind away tooth. Ouch, it hurts just to say it! The friction of grinding causes heat. This heat, along with the pressure of the drill, is what causes pain and makes it necessary to use anesthetic and needles. Heat from the drill can "burn" the tooth and in some cases even lead to needing a root canal.

The drill also vibrates, causing tiny cracks in the surrounding healthy tooth. These "microfractures" can allow bacteria to penetrate and cause more decay.

NON SURGICAL TREATMENT OF GUM DISEASE

Traditional treatment of gum disease, called periodontitis, requires cutting and folding back the gums to clean the surface of the root of the affected
teeth.

Everyone should go to the dentist at least a couple of times a year for a check-up and cleaning. But when you need dental work, the fewer visits, the better. Waterlase helps reduce appointments to a minimum.
With the drill, the dentist will only numb or "freeze" a limited area of the mouth at one time. If you or your child have cavities in several areas of the mouth, that means several visits. Because Waterlase usually requires no anesthetic, the dentist can fix cavities in all areas of the mouth in one visit.

If you need a root canal you only want to have it done once. Sadly, many root canals need to be repeated because enough bacteria are left in the canal to re-infect the tooth.
