Introducing Painless Biological Dentistry

Biological Dentistry Benefits

Thousands of dentists remove cavities with only light and water, using our WaterLase laser system. Now patients expect this healthier, more comfortable care throughout their dental experience.
So BIOLASE is now dedicating itself to a bold new idea we call Biological Dentistry™.
Applying the latest science and technology, we are providing dentists with options for treatment, diagnosis and prevention that are more compatible with the natural healthy state of the human body than conventional methods.

*Discomfort is based on individual sensitivity to pain, and other factors, so not all patients can be treated painlessly without anesthetic. However, dentists using WaterLase to perform typical cavity preparations report not using anesthetic in the majority of cases.

Dental drills grind away tooth. Ouch, it hurts just to say it! The friction of grinding causes heat. This heat, along with the pressure of the drill, is what causes pain and makes it necessary to use anesthetic and needles. Heat from the drill can "burn" the tooth and in some cases even lead to needing a root canal.

The drill also vibrates, causing tiny cracks in the surrounding healthy tooth. These "microfractures" can allow bacteria to penetrate and cause more decay.

"…you can expect to do 90% to 95% of procedures painlessly, without anesthetic…" - William Greider, DMD Fort Meyers  FL

The drill and needle also create opportunities for infection and passing germs from one patient to another. 15% of "sterilized" burs and up to 76% of "sterilized" endodontic files carry pathogenic micro-organisms1,2 WaterLase is non-contact.

Doctors and scientists recommend avoiding exposure to radiation. If you are getting an implant or having orthodontic treatment though, a good 3D X-ray can mean the difference between the success or failure of the procedure.
The BIOLASE DaVinci Imaging D3D™ 3D X-ray system uses the lowest radiation for a full-view 3D dental x-ray.

Traditional treatment of gum disease, called periodontitis, requires cutting and folding back the gums to clean the surface of the root of the affected
go between teeth and gums, clean the root surface, remove diseased tissue, kill germs, and remove calculus. This helps the gum reattach to the tooth to keep harmful bacteria out – no scalpels or sutures necessary.

high-speed drills."

Most people want to spend as little time as possible in the dentist's chair. With WaterLase, the dentist can go right to work removing tooth decay – no more waiting to numb up or "freeze" the mouth, no worries about
out decayed tooth and is very precise, so it saves more of the healthier tooth than the drill. Afterwards you can go right back to work, school, or play – no waiting for that numb lip to go away.

Fewer Visits to the Dentist

Everyone should go to the dentist at least a couple of times a year for a check-up and cleaning. But when you need dental work, the fewer visits, the better. Waterlase helps reduce appointments to a minimum.
With the drill, the dentist will only numb or "freeze" a limited area of the mouth at one time. If you or your child have cavities in several areas of the mouth, that means several visits. Because Waterlase usually requires no anesthetic, the dentist can fix cavities in all areas of the mouth in one visit.

Cleaner Root Canals

If you need a root canal you only want to have it done once. Sadly, many root canals need to be repeated because enough bacteria are left in the canal to re-infect the tooth.
University studies show that Waterlase disinfects the canal far better than conventional treatment.  Germ-killing laser energy can reach bacteria where disinfecting chemicals can't.
