WATCH HIGHLIGHTS OF THE First Interationally Televised Laser Root Canal Procedure

On January 8, 2009, the internationally syndicated TV show “The Doctors” featured a Waterlase Dentistry root canal treatment performed live at CBS Paramount Studios in Hollywood.

Dr. Darrell Chun, a Waterlase Dentist from Elk Grove, California performed the entire root canal procedure without numbing up the highly dental-phobic patient, who had previously experienced a very painful root canal.

Dr. Chun used the Waterlase MD throughout the procedure — from access through cleaning and disinfection. The Waterlase MD with Radial Firing Tips is the first laser treatment FDA cleared for disinfection of the root canal.

“First, these bacteria [E. faecalis] are known to be highly resistant to other disinfection currently used in root canal therapy. Second, the research demonstrates that the disinfection capability of the laser is effective at a distance into the dentin surrounding the canal, overcoming some accessibility problems for conventional treatment methods. Third, a high level of disinfection can be achieved in minutes, saving both the patient and dentist considerable time during endodontic treatment.”
