Periodontitis and Peri-Implantitis: Is the Tide Rising?Don Clem, DDS, Diplomat at the American Board of PeriodontologyDental implants have been recognized as one of the greatest advancements in dentistry. Beginning in the late 80’s, however, reports began to appear describing a unique progressive bone loss associated with inflammation and infection. Since that time, these reports have increased and the term “peri-implantitis” has been officially recognized as an inflammatory bone lesion associated with dental implants. How is periodontitis and peri-implantitis the same and how are they different? This presentation will review the etiology of these conditions, strategies for prevention and treatment as well as an evidence-based approach of regenerative therapy for inflammatory bone loss. The Tongue is for LifeDr. Marjan Jones, BDSc UQ (Hons) BSc MelbThe tongue’s resting position, tone and movement can impact breastfeeding, breathing, speech, eating and jaw development. When tongue movement is limited due to a tongue restriction, these vital functions can be affected. A practitioner needs to carry a thorough assessment and undertake a comprehensive surgical release for optimum results with improved quality of life. LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Changing the Orthodontic LandscapeDr Steven LuccarelliWith the significant changes occurring in orthodontics today, it is more important than ever to separate your practice from the herd. Treating your orthodontic cases with lasers can help you differentiate your practice, improve smile aesthetics, be more efficient with fewer appointments, and significantly improve your per patient profitability. This lecture will focus on how soft tissue exposures can reduce treatment time and appointments, gingivectomies will provide better smile esthetics, and how to achieve more predictable results with laser enhanced Invisalign treatment. 10:30am – 11:15am | Preety Desai, DDS – Minimally Invasive Therapy for Periodontics & Implants
Minimally Invasive Therapy for Periodontics & ImplantsDr. Preety DesaiDentistry has not advantaged itself to laser technology as our medical colleagues have for surgical, interventional or preventive therapies. Simply put, physicians can use one laser wavelength for a procedure while the oral cavity has 5 surfaces (enamel, dentin, soft tissue, bone and now implants) we need to treat. The “all tissue laser” designed for dentistry satisfies our need to treat all 5 surfaces. This course will provide an evidenced-based understanding of an array of marketed lasers with their advantages and disadvantages; clarifying from corporate rhetoric and marketing with clinical results. The erbium laser is the “dentist’s” laser facilitating the most minimally invasive delivery of restorative and surgical treatment compared to any blade, drill, piezoelectric or surgical elevators, benefitting the patient emotionally and clinically. Management of Gingival Discrepancies in The Esthetic ZoneGreggory A. Kinzer, D.D.S., M.S.D. — Director of Curriculum and Campus Education, SPEAR EducationSymmetry of the gingival architecture plays a vital role in creating an esthetic treatment outcome. When planning treatment for patients with gingival discrepancies, it is often necessary to incorporate periodontal surgery and/or orthodontics to achieve the most predictable result. The question often becomes which treatment option would be better? This presentation will address the various etiologies associated with aberrant gingival margin locations and provide a systematic approach for management of these discrepancies. LEARNING OBJECTIVES
