Why Endodontists Should Add Dental Lasers to Their Practice

By Dr. Patrick King

I immediately saw a significant improvement in my patient’s recovery process, and overall satisfaction, after integrating BIOLASE’s dental lasers into my practice. Parallel to this, I noticed an increase in foot traffic and interest, as many patients were seeking the high-quality care dental lasers offer.

My Waterlase iPlus for endodontic treatment is my go-to device for a myriad of treatments, in addition to minor periodontal procedures, such as crown lengthening. During patient visits, it is clear that they are amazed, and even excited by the state-of-the-art technology the Waterlase iPlus laser offers. Today’s patients want – and even expect – the highest quality of clinical care. Many patients are aware from their own research or through our conversations that dental lasers afford this caliber of care.

"After just one year of using Waterlase, I can confidently say that my practice has evolved. Our patients are always our top priority and bringing in top equipment to serve them was a natural next step."

Minimized time in the chair, minimized visits to the office, and—best of all— minimized recovery time and post-operative pain

One of the biggest differences (and benefits) of adopting the Waterlase iPlus, is the ability to perform multiple procedures in one visit. The Waterlase iPlus has been seamlessly integrated into our existing treatment protocols, allowing patients a more streamlined process that is often faster, yet also gentler than previous treatments performed with “traditional” tools. In addition to the benefit to the patient in being able to get out of the chair and back to their day sooner, I am also benefited by this allowing me to see more patients on any given day.

This was especially important amid the height of the COVID-19 pandemic when many of my patients were unwilling or unable to break quarantine by coming into the office multiple times. My patients continue to comment on their appreciation of the technology, from saving time in their day during the treatment itself to sidestepping the need to return for additional appointments. The biggest win I continue to hear, however, is the minimal postoperative discomfort they experience with laser-assisted treatments.

Going beyond the dental chair

Throughout my time practicing dentistry, I have observed that the biggest rationale for poor oral care is simply fear around the pain that traditional dental devices are typically associated with. Traditional equipment can cause microfractures in patients’ teeth, making them more sensitive to breakage whereas dental lasers allow for minimal removal of tooth structure, and enhanced debridement. This is because they do not use heat or pressure during the process.

After just one year of using BIOLASE dental lasers, I can confidently say that my practice has evolved. Our patients are always our top priority and bringing in the top equipment to serve them was a natural next step. I am excited to see where dental lasers will take my practice in the future, and how they continue to evolve as well.
